042 Molybdenum Cylinder

Pure molybdenum is a dense, silver-grey metal with the fifth highest melting point of all the metals. For this reason molybdenum is traded commercially as a powder and, like many of the transition metals, most is used in alloys and only a small percentage as the pure metal. An interesting early example of molybdenum steel was found through analysis of a Japanese Samurai sword manufactured around 1330. The metal was not formally discovered until 1781 and demand didn't take off until the First World War, when molybdenum steels became important in tank armour and projectiles.
